Guns found after heist

Police have found rifles believed to have been used during the weekend's daring N12 cash-in-transit heist.

Attackers blew up the cash-in-transit van and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police are warning the public that taking money from crime scenes is itself a crime.

They say those doing so can be charged with theft and defeating the ends of justice.

"An intelligence driven operation wherein police were tracing suspects linked to the N12 cash-in-transit heist has led Gauteng police to a backroom in Mapetla, Soweto. At the said identified address, police forced open a backroom where they found and seized two rifle’s including an AK-47, magazines and 71 rounds of ammunition.

These rifles have been taken in for ballistics testing to determine their linkage to other cash-in-transit heist and associated robberies," says SAPS Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
